The Bunkie
A quiet space for deep rest during your stay at Jasper's Pond.

For those that appreciate details:
-
Excessive heat, high winds, snow, rain, fog, ice – we get all of it. Check the current weather conditions on the website a day or two before you arrive (& expect for it to change).
-
WiFi is available via Starlink. Though we encourage you to experience a digital detox while here, if you’re not there yet, high speed internet, video conferencing, and WiFi calling are all quite reliable.
-
The Bunkie has hot & running water with a shower, sink, and a modern composting toilet. In summer months the outdoor shower is also available – which is quite delightful!
-
In the kitchen there’s a sink, induction stove & mini fridge. It’s enough for morning tea or coffee and offers the ability to cook simple meals.
-
A mini split system provides heat and A/C. There’s also propane for back up heat in the winter months.
-
Burn ban happens every year in Klickitat County, typically May 15th – October 1st . During this time there are no wood fires, BBQs, smoking, or open flames at the Pond. Smokey says, “Only you can prevent wildfires.” Brenda says, “Please don’t make me that member the High Prairie Fire crew.”
The Bunkie is stocked with:
-
Filtered drinking water, coffee, tea, and snacks
-
Basic spices, olive oil, Sriracha, and soy sauce
-
Pillows, bed linens, blankets, and towels
-
A Bluetooth speaker, a few favorite books, and basic art supplies
-
Utensils, dishes, cups/glasses, a kettle, cooking pans, and small crockpot
-
Dish, hand, and body soap
Social pressure is off:
You will not hurt our feelings if you come seeking solitude and aren’t up for much socializing. Truly. Jasper’s Pond is an exceptional place for a silent retreat, a day of reading, focused work, or general recovery. We understand the need for quiet time and encourage you to enjoy it in High Prairie. Drive by hellos and fuel available as needed.
Food and drink is on us:
-
Whether or not you choose to socialize, you should expect to be well fed. If you have preferences, aversions, or allergies that we don’t already know about, this is your invitation and encouragement to advocate for yourself and say so. Join us for meals or we’ll slip some food your way so you can keep on with your quiet time.
-
Whether alcohol or zero proof, we are well stocked with drinks of all kinds. All yours.
What should you bring?
-
Toiletries, meds, and any must-have creature comforts
-
Slippers for lounging in the Bunkie - the floors can be a bit chilly
-
A bathing suit if you want to sauna but are uncomfortable going naked
-
Hiking boots if you want to wander off path through the woods (also – wood tick alert!)
-
A hat and sweatshirt for early mornings or evenings outside + a raincoat for all but June, July & August
-
Everything else is already here – seriously
-
We do appreciate a check in before you head out to see if there’s anything we need at the pond. Being an hour from town, we typically won’t make an unplanned supplies run unless it’s critical.
One last thing:
Most of the people in our life are do-ers, helpers, and givers rather than receivers or askers of help. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, beat, or generally in need of respite, forget worrying about what you can bring or if it’s a good time to come – just get out here. We’ll take care of the rest and support you the best way we know how. And what we can’t cover, Nature will.
See you soon!
